Michael Atherton: Creation of Trespass Warning List and linking to KS Statute.

= '''Preface''' =
The following is a list of persons/individuals with trespass warning issued to them by the Board of Directors of MakeICT or by Security due to either 1) board action or 2) keycard revocation. The named individuals are not allowed onto MakeICT property or into the building except as a guest of a Director or Lead Security Officer.

Named individuals are subject to [https://www.kslegislature.org/li_2012/b2011_12/statute/021_000_0000_chapter/021_058_0000_article/021_058_0008_section/021_058_0008_k/ '''<u>KS 21-5808</u>'''] regrading criminal trespass.

There shall be a physical copy of this list made available and posted in the welcome area.

This list will be updated as warranted.
<br />

=== Membership Responsibilities ===

Members are asked to do the following if a trespass warned individual is on the property and/or in the building:

* Members will notify Security and Board of the trespass. Include the date, time, area of the grounds/building, and the name of the individual.

* Contact Police and notify them of an individual that has been trespass warned. Submit any case numbers given by Police to Directors for follow up

'''''<u>If a member feels uncomfortable contacting police, the minimum acceptable response is to notify Board/Security.</u>'''''

'''''<u>Threats of physical harm or damage of property OR actual physical harm or damage to property MUST be reported to Police.</u>'''''

Members are NOT ALOWED to issue trespass warnings OR falsely report non-warned individuals to Police. Doing so will result in immediate revocation of badge access and any other legal action Police find appropriate.

Members will not allow trespass warned individuals access to the buildings or grounds. Doing so will result in immediate revocation of badge access by security.
<br />

==General Information==

The jewelry lab is located in the Cold Metal shop at MakeICT. Metal shop authorization is highly recommended before using the Jewelry Lab, but not required. In this lab you can work many precious and non-ferrous metals including solder metal, melting glass, lampworking glass for beads, and cast jewelry. We have most of the hand tools and a good selection of equipment to work with, members provide their own materials for projects. Authorization for the cabbing machine, diamond saws, and centrifugal caster must be acquired before use.

Michael Atherton is the jewelry lab lead and can be contacted at [mailto:jewelry@makeict.org Jewelry@makeict.org].

==Jewelry Lab Safety==

#You are welcome to use any of the tools or equipment in the Jewelry Lab, with the exception of the Cabbing Machine, Diamond Saws, and Centrifugal Caster without prior authorization.
#If there's something you don't know how to do safely or without damaging the equipment, please ask before using. You can always ask questions on the forum [http://makeict.org/forum ask for help].
#Do not use any machine that is not in good working order. Stop, unplug and leave a note on the machine and notify [mailto:jewelry@makeict.org Jewelry Lab].
#Never assume a tool is properly adjusted; always check the tool prior to use. If you are unsure or are unfamiliar with the tool, treat the tool as if it is out of adjustment.
#Never modify or hack any equipment.
#If something is wrong or a piece of equipment is malfunctioning, leave a note in an obvious place on the troubled equipment and e-mail [mailto:jewelry@makeict.org jewelry@makeict.org].
== Resources ==

=== Supplies ===

* [https://www.riogrande.com/ Rio Grande] - Selection of metals, gemstones, tools, equipment, consumables/abrasives, and other supplies. Good primary resource for projects. Free Shipping for orders over $200 and under 10lbs so groups of makers can take advantage to pool purchases.
* [https://www.firemountaingems.com/ Fire Mountain Gems] - Good selection of beads, cabochons, and unique faceted gems not carried by Rio Grande.
* Amazon - Use as a LAST RESORT. Metals are overpriced and questionable. Gems are junk. Good for cheap abrasives for rotary tools. <br />

=== Books For Self Instruction ===

* Jewelry Making for Schools, Tradesmen, and Craftsmen by Murray Bovin - Covers basics of jewelry crafting and techniques. Published back in 1979 it is a bit dated but a good reference guide or to leaf through to get inspiration for designs.

<p>Our A-frame press, ring stretcher/shrinker, grinder/polisher, cabbing machine, and stone saws are all on loan from members, and replacing those items with MakeICT-owned equipment should be a priority. The ring stretcher/shrinker in particular has been heavily used, and is a low-end version never really designed for such heavy use.</p>
<p>We are currently in need of many items normally found in a properly-equipped jewelry design and repair shop. Donations of tools, jewelry, materials, and findings are greatly appreciated. We desperately need an assortment of findings and parts for fabricating small jewelry. Silver wire, silver sheet stock, and scrap silver would make it a much better lab. We are also seeking people with experience in jewelry work to teach small classes (usually limited to six people, because the lab is small) in their area of talent, interest, or expertise.

The Forge Committee had their initial ‘getting our poop in a group’ meeting.

In attendance:

<nowiki>*</nowiki>James Seymour

<nowiki>*</nowiki>Mike Atherton

<nowiki>*</nowiki>Shaun Sigley

James Began the meeting reiterating the fact that it is unlikely we will have financial support from the board in the foreseeable future.

The committee is declaring itself with the following members:

<nowiki>*</nowiki>James Seymour - Chairman

<nowiki>*</nowiki>Michael Atherton -Vice Chairman

<nowiki>*</nowiki>Shaun Sigley

<nowiki>*</nowiki>Brett Headford

<nowiki>*</nowiki>David Hanson

<nowiki>*</nowiki>Ian Cazabat

<nowiki>*</nowiki>Rustin Atkeisson

<nowiki>*</nowiki>John Withers

The committee is has come together to hammer out a path forward for bringing a forge program to MakeICT. Ensuring it’s safe use among the membership is our primary focus.

This will include classes, authorizations, preventative maintenance, and requirements for use. We will do this by using a simple coal forge to teach classes with, and use the money we make to build a nicer gas forge.

Mike is going to look into getting a simple coal forge up and running.

James is going to help with the forced air system.

Shaun is going to touch base with Rustin about doing some basic classes in making coal and making a knife from a railroad spike, or file.

James is going to touch base with the woodshop about their scrap generation (to use for coal making) schmooze the board, and… well… this post.
