Rules

  • Teams consist of 2 to 4 members; however, only 1-3 members can be in the boat for the race. Race must begin and end with the crew intact. All participants in the boats must wear USCG approved personal floatation devices. All participants must fill out a hold harmless form.
  • Boats must be made ONLY of cardboard, duct tape, and water-based paint (low or no VOC). Duct tape can only be used on seams. The hull may not be wrapped in any plastic, duct tape, or shrink wrap. Cardboard cannot be waxed. Boats must be made before the race and will be inspected. Each team is responsible for the transportation of their boat. Teams are not allowed to reinforce or adjust their boat in any way after the inspection.
  • No raft or surfboard style boats. The boat’s passenger area must not be enclosed above the occupant’s shoulders, so as to not interfere with escape should the vessel begin to sink. Boat design is left to the builder’s imagination.
  • Boats must be propelled by the use of arms, pool noodles, or cardboard paddles. Paddles must meet the similar construction requirements as the boat (cardboard, duct tape, water-based paint, and pool noodles). No electrical or combustion power to propel the boat will be permitted. (motorized boats will require registration with the state)
  • Each boat must carry a closed empty gallon plastic jug (or PFD) with a 15’ rope tether firmly secured to the vessel. Gallon jugs (or PFD) are to remain inside the boat while racing, they are not to be used as floatation for the vessel. This is for use in locating and retrieving any sunken remains.
  • Have fun and be respectful of other participants and lake visitors.
  • All teams must have at least one member over the age of 18.
  • All boats after the event must be removed from the lake and have disposal coordinated if it will not fit in their vehicle.
  • Added 8/26/2022: All attendees or participants must have a parking displayed in their vehicles during the event. The permits can be picked up from the front desk at MakeICT or from one of the event coordinators during the event.

  • Main weapons must be made from cardboard, duct tape, and foam noodles
  • One commercial water gun can be used once the main weapon is destroyed
  • No electric pumps may be used
  • No explosives, chemicals, or flames may be used
  • All weapons must have a minimum range of 3ft
  • No part of the weapon may be launched with the projectile
