Volunteering

MakeICT is operated entirely by member-volunteers, so there are many ways that you can be involved with MakeICT at whatever level you're looking for.

You could join one of the leadership subcommittees, help out or fill one of the long-term volunteer positions, find something to do around the makerspace, or help out at an event!

Leadership committees

Governance

  • Govna: Dominic Canare
  • The governance committee is in charge of the smooth operation of the organization by identifying leadership roles and defining policies.
  • Volunteer opportunities
    • New member orientation - we do these once per month, and they take about 30 minutes. All you have to do is make sure people sign in and then fill out a waiver. Then you go over the rules (we have a script) and give a tour. It's pretty easy, and it only takes about 30 minutes.

Outreach Gaggle

Special Projects Brigade

  • Leader: Mike Doolittle
  • Special Projects are things that fall outside of the formalized activities.
    • The electric bus is one example, it will be moved soon to a makerspace we all love.
    • Maybe you have an idea of a class you would like to see and want to stir up interest, or maybe it is a class you would like to teach.
    • How about a MakeICT Parade float?
  • Current volunteer opportunities:
    • Help on weekends and Open Hack nights with setting up MakeICT various spaces like Electronics, maybe the Metal Shop or Studio Arts areas. Check with the BDs.

Markespace

Woodshop BD

I work full time at Spirit AeroSystems as a senior structures engineer with over 30 years experience. My real passion is woodworking. I have been doing woodworking for over 25 years and a long time member of the [Sunflower Woodworkers' Guild][[1]] in Wichita. I usually attend at least one intense one week class at Marc Adams School of Woodworking (MASW) in Indianapolis Indiana each summer to learn from the best woodworking teachers in the world. I received my Masters level at MASW in 2014 after having taken classes from world recognized instructors like Michael Fortune, Marc Adams, Steven Proctor, Alan Lacer, Greg Johnson, Mary May, etc. I have built almost all of the furniture in my home, or have plans to replace the rest with custom designed and built furniture by myself. I look forward to sharing the woodworking experience with those interested in wood in Wichita.
