7 members present.

Review of Membership Committee letter to the board:

  • The committee reviewed the letter and felt it was a good starting point.
  • Per the letter the Membership Committee recommended the current verbiage “Guests must be directly supervised at all times while in the MakeICT Makerspace” should be changed to read “Guests must be in the same area as their host at all times while in the MakeICT Makerspace”.
  • The Membership committee also recommends verbiage explaining the exceptions such as trips to the bathroom, lounge, etc.
  • The current questions are should the existing verbiage of the Guest policy be changed as proposed in the letter.

Cameras:

  • Ben discussed that his understanding is that we are no where close to having cameras in all areas (likely will not happen this year).
  • Steve pointed out that Security does have cameras on hand and are working on a plan to install them.  Though it is not clear if all cameras work.

Door Access:

Expectations:

Policies:

Open Discussion

  • Are age requirements going to be in a single policy, or are those in a single minor policy.
  • Age requirements are not posted.  They may be in the wiki but they are not posted.  How many people know the actual age limits.
  • A proposal may be to increase the minimum age for a badge to 18.
  • The committee spent time brainstorming other possible incentives for minor members without badge access
    • possible class discount
    • possible bonus materials for only minor members
    • possible family classes

Curfew:

  • Reverence CHAPTER 5.52. - MINORS—CURFEW
  • Per Sec. 5.52.010, curfew is 11PM – 6AM for those under 15 and midnight – 6AM for 16 – 17 year old.
  • Per Sec. 5.52.030, we could be subject to a mandatory, minimum fine of fifty dollars and a maximum fine of five hundred dollars, plus court costs for allowing a minor to be in the space after curfew.

Liability:

  • Ben has discussed with a lawyer and Attractive Nuisance Doctrine requires the equipment must be safe from harm if minors are expected to be present.  Also Tort Liability allows a minors family to sue the organization and the board members.  We currently do not have any safety practices in place.

Guest Policy change:

  • In addition to the verbiage change discussed above, the committee questions whether the policy should prohibit members under the age of 18 from bringing minors as guests, but everyone agrees that there is no reason to make a policy about minors who have badges if we are planning on suggesting that minors not be allowed to have badges.

Insurance:

  • The committee reviewed the insurance policy, it is not clear, but it seems like there is very little medical coverage.
