Tool Loans to MakeICT: Policy

People can loan tools to MakeICT if they wish. This is an alternative to donating tools and follows a model shown successful at Bloominglabs, a hackerspace in Bloomington, Indiana

General

  • A tool on loan will be labeled as such and will include contact information for the owner as well as a link to this wiki page
  • Optionally, the tool will also have a link to this wiki outlining care, use, precautions, and training options for use of the tool

People using tools on loan

  • Tools loaned to the makerspace will follow the same Machine Access policies as other tools, defined by the Benevolent Dictator presiding over that particular area. The loaner of the tool will work with the BD to determine appropriate policies.
  • Please consider helping with the cost or labor of the maintenance/repair as form of payback for its use.
  • Do not use a tool if there is any threat to damage to it through continued use due to its condition. Instead, contact the owner.
  • Accidents happen. If a tool is damaged in any way or you suspect any problem with a tool, contact the owner.

People loaning tools

  • Tools will be accepted by MakeICT subject to approval by the MakeICT administrative board
  • Tools may be retrieved at any time by the owner
  • MakeICT will do its best to ensure that tools on loan are used appropriately and cared for. However, MakeICT is not responsible for any damage to a tool, regardless of cause. This includes misuse and acts of God.
  • If a tool you loan to MakeICT harms any person or property while under operation of MakeICT, you will not be held responsible.
  • MakeICT has limited space and may at any time request that you take back your tool. If such a request is made you have 30 days to remove your tool before it is subject to disposal. It's not that we don't love you or your tool, but there's only room for so much. Nothing personal, see?
  • The loaner of the tool will determine who is allowed to perform maintenance or make repairs on the tool. This must be specified before the loan can be accepted.

MakeICT administration

  • MakeICT keeps a list of tools on loan on this google spreadsheet
  • MakeICT carries as part of its insurance policy $10,000 to cover the cost of damage for other people's property at MakeICT. This property includes tools on loan to MakeICT
